Diego Lazzarich

Fulbright Chair Distinguished Visiting Professor

Diego LAZZARICH is Professor of History of Political Thought at the University of Naples "L’Orientale" and a Fulbright Distinguished Lecturer at Northwestern University for the Spring Quarter 2026. He is the founder and editor-in-chief of the academic journal Politics: Rivista di Studi Politici, and has been a visiting researcher and professor at numerous universities worldwide, including the University of Cambridge. He is a member of several academic associations, including the Association for Global Political Thought (Harvard University), where he serves on the Advisory Council, and the Associazione di Storia del Pensiero Politico, of which he is a member of the Executive Board.

His research, situated within the fields of the History of Political Thought, Intellectual History, and Political Theory, primarily focuses on three areas: war in Western political thought, with particular emphasis on the political and legal theory of Emer de Vattel and discourses of war in modernity (explored in two books and numerous scholarly articles); gratitude in Western political thought (the subject of a book and multiple scholarly papers); and Machiavelli’s political thought, which he has examined in essays and international conference presentations, and which forms the basis of a forthcoming book.
