The department does not admit students for the MA degree, but will award the MA upon request to doctoral students who have completed all coursework other than French 596, and passed all 3 exams required by the PhD program. (In other words, students are eligible for the MA once they have successfully completed all requirements prior to beginning formal work on a prospectus). Thus, to qualify for an MA, students must 1) have completed 17 courses, at least 12 of them in French, including 2 units of 493, and 1 unit.
