Anna Batty

Anna Batty is a graduate student in the department of French and Italian. She received her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a double major in Linguistics and French in 2023. Prior to joining the department, she spent a year working as a TAPIF language assistant, teaching English to high-school students in Nimes, France, where she developed a passion for second-language education and inclusive pedagogy.

Currently, she is interested in exploring linguistic/idiolectic identity formation as it pertains to literary and visual expression in the field of French and Francophone studies. More broadly, her research interests include gender and sexuality studies, post-colonial studies, 20th and 21st century Francophone film and literature, semiotic theory, and sociolinguistics.
