Maya Sidhu is currently a Lecturer in French at the University of California, Berkeley. Maya received her M.A. in French Language and Civilization from New York University in Paris in 2009 and her Ph.D. in French and Francophone Studies from Northwestern University in 2016.Maya’s research is in film and media studies. Her dissertation, Beyond the Auteur Engagé: Women Filmmakers in Popular Front France challenges the acknowledged absence of politically active women filmmakers in 1930’s France by rethinking the intersections of authorship, film production, and gender. Her most recent work examines the intersection between gender politics and filmmaking in 1930s France.
