Ph.D. 2023

Noran Mohamed is Assistant Professor of French at Hunter College, CUNY. She holds a B.A. in French and a B.S. in Biology from the University of South Carolina. She specializes in Maghrebi literatures from the 20th century to the present. Broadly, her research investigates the relationship between corporeality, writing, memory, and identity through what she calls “corporeal writing and memory.” Her current research and book project focuses on the body as both represented and created through a process of remembering and writing narrative in four novels written in French and Arabic: La Prière de l’Absent (1981) by Tahar ben Jelloun, Dhakirat al-jassad (1993) and Fawdā al Hawās (1997) by Ahlam Mosteghanemi, and Corps désirable (2015) by Hubert Haddad.
