DEPARTMENT OF FRENCH AND ITALIAN

Maureen Winter completed her Ph.D. in the department of French & Italian in 2023 after earning a BA at Goucher College and an MA from New York University. Her dissertation, “The Gesture and the Interval”, considers the artistic representation and philosophical analysis of gesture in works by Agnès Varda, Robert Bresson, Jean Genet, and Chantal Akerman. Winter has a broader interest in Marxist theory and politics. She currently lives in Paris where she is training to become a psychoanalyst.
